It is no secret that the cost of prescription drugs is a serious burden on many tens of millions of citizens in the United States. By focusing on generic medications we hope to help ease that financial burden and educate patients about receiving the same therapy they need at a much lower cost.

Why are generics less? How can they be "as good"? Simple. When a new drug is developed, the company who developed it has patent protection on it for a number of years to help them recoup costs on developing the drug by granting them sole marketing rights. After the patent expires, other companies can develop and market "generics" of that medication that must meet very stringent testing regimens to prove that they contain the same active ingredients and that they are either released at the same rate into the patient, or that they have the same therapeutic response in a pre-determined amount of time.

To simplify all of that...they have to have the exact same ingredients that actually have an effect on your body and they have to produce identical results. Once that's proven the FDA will give permission for the drug to be sold. They will have different names, and may look different, but rest assured...the cost is normally the only significant difference.
